'Culture of shame'

Never has there been two more powerful symbols than that of these two simple club logos.

Sectarianism could become "synonymous with Scotland", it is not just a scar on scotlands turbulent past but on its present. Old firm games act as the trigger that results in a very public display of deep-rooted sectarianism that permeates much of Scotland's society

In an attempt to claim Christ as their figurehead both the catholic and protestant religions have scorned the very moral virtues they claim to uphold. Namely being honour, charity and acceptance. Is morality and acceptance present when a young man is lying savagely wounded due to a sustained knife attack. The whole core of this brutality was once fixed firmly in who's religion is most in tune with modern times, this has been replaced by who's team is the best. Religion it seems is the dumping ground for man's inherent savegery and desire to win...

The Persecution of a religion and its people are not just exlusive to the arch rivalry of Catholic and Protestant faith, history has spawned warring sides who seek to suppress any other religious interpratation but there own, this has been the catalyst for many civil wars and bloodshed within the British Isles. The dark undercurrent of racial intolerrance forces us backward, the reluctance to abandon this primitave way of thinking will cotaminate many generations to come.

The ship building idustry has over the years maintained and ensured excluivity for protestant workers. This picture is a stark reminder that catholics were just not wanted. However this is not an issue today as catholics are steadily and consistantly employed within the ship building sector.

Prejudice and crime against asylum seekers in Glasgow may be a bigger problem than sectarianism, according to a survey of attitudes in the city. A significant number of those questioned said they had a problem with homosexuals, people of a different race or refugees becoming their neighbours. However, only a small percentage expressed concern about Catholics or Protestants moving in next door. Although The blight of bigotry has vastly improved, there is still a hardcore element that spills from the club grounds onto the streets of Glasgow when Rangers and Celtic go head to head.

In order to gain more understanding about the history of the these two faith's, we must firstly understand the catalyst for internal conflict within scotland's religious community.
